In order to enhance learning and equip students with necessary 21st century computing skills, students will be assigned a laptop or ipad for class use. To safely maintain our school infrastructure and social atmosphere while enhancing the learning environment, the following technology guidelines and policies must be adhered to:
- Handle school-issued devices with care.

- Do not tamper with or remove manufacturer or identifying stickers.
- Do not draw on or deface the devices.
- Do not add, remove, or otherwise alter device components (software or hardware).
- Keep devices away from food and drinks.
- Respect and protect student privacy.

- Use only assigned school accounts.
- Do not view, use, or copy passwords, data, or networks to which you are not authorized.
- Do not share your passwords.
- Do not distribute private information about yourself or others.
- Respect and protect the integrity, availability, and security of all educational technology resources

- Observe all network security practices, as posted.
- Report security risks or violations to a teacher or network administrator.
- Do not destroy or damage data, networks, or other technology resources.
- Report problems with any resources to a teacher or staff member.
- Respect and protect the intellectual property of others.

- Do not infringe copyrights (no making illegal copies of images, music, games, or movies).
- Do not plagiarize or claim others’ work as my own. This includes the use of generative artificial intelligence unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
- Respect and practice HVCA’s principles of community.

- Communicate only in ways that are kind and respectful, remembering that Christ’s example applies to how we treat people online as well as offline.
- Report threatening or discomforting materials to a teacher.
- Do not access, transmit, copy, or create material that violates the school’s code of conduct (such as websites or messages that are pornographic, threatening, rude, discriminatory, or meant to harass).
- Do not access, transmit, copy, or create material that is illegal (such as obscenity, stolen materials, or illegal copies of copyrighted works).
- Do not use technology resources to further other acts that are criminal or violate the school’s code of conduct.
- Do not use school technology to send spam, chain letters, or other mass unsolicited mailings.
- Do not use school technology to buy, sell, advertise, or otherwise conduct business, unless approved as a school project.
Student Laptop/Ipad Violations & Consequences
1st Offense: Warning (for minor offense); Warning & Technology Violation (for major offense)
2nd Offense:Technology Violation (for minor offense); Technology Violation & Disciplinary Action (for major offense)
3rd Offense: Technology Violation & Disciplinary Action (for minor offense); Technology Violation & Disciplinary Meeting with Parent
NOTE: Depending on the severity of the violation, a student may be immediately suspended or expelled from school before the third offense.
As the parent/legal guardian, I understand the following:
- I assume all financial responsibility for any damage, loss, or theft to an HVAC-owned device resulting from my child’s negligence and all financial responsibility for any violations of laws pertaining to such access by my child.
- For any damage found during the year or upon return of the device, the cost of the repair or replacement part(s) will be charged to my child’s account.
- HVCA may remotely monitor activities on any school-issued device for the safety of my child.
- My child will have access to networked computer services such as email (upper grades) and monitored access to the Internet.
- My child will abide by the technology policies established by the school.
- Failure to adhere to policies regarding computers, software, and the Internet is considered a major school offense and may result in my child’s loss of technology privileges and/or referral to the disciplinary committee.
- I hereby release Huntingdon Valley Christian Academy; their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates; and any other person, fund, or entity related to any of them from any liability associated with the use of HVCA-owned devices.
Loco Parentis
School personnel “have the right to exercise the same authority as a parent, guardian or person in parental relation to such pupil concerning conduct and behavior over the pupils attending a school during the time they are in attendance, including the time required in going to and from their homes” (22 Pa. Code § 10.25).
As the student, I understand the following:
- Under no circumstances will I share my HVCA passwords or use another person’s password.
- My parents/legal guardians are responsible for any damage, loss, or theft of the school device while under my care.
- As a student user of the HVCA computer network and technology equipment, I agree to use the technology and media in a responsible fashion while honoring all relevant laws and regulations.
- I will only access the Internet through the HVCA network while on the school’s campus.
- I will not use my laptop as or through a web proxy, 3G, 4G, 5G, or hotspot.
- I will not try to find ways to circumvent HVCA’s safety measures and filtering tools.
- I will not gain unauthorized access to sites, servers, content, or Internet access points not intended for my use.
- For my safety, HVCA may remotely monitor my activities on any school-issued devices.
- Failure to adhere to policies regarding computers, software, and the Internet is considered a major school offense and may result in reduced or lost technology privileges and referral to the disciplinary committee.
- The school-issued device is the sole property of HVCA.
