3rd & 4th Grade

This week, 3rd and 4th grade is starting a
new theme on overcoming challenges.
We are reading the book Helen Keller:
Courage in the Dark. We are going to
compare and contrast 2012 t0 1880 when
Helen Keller lived. We are also going to
do a character map on Helen Keller when
she was a child so we can track the
changes she made as she became an
adult. This week, we are focusing on
sign language, which is one way that
deaf people overcome their inability to
hear. We will also begin a biography
project on inspirational people at the end
of the week! In addition, we will be
learning about how difficult it can be to
overcome challenges. We will explore
our senses by trying a taste test without
all of our senses, taking a listening walk,
and try to figure out what’s in a mystery
“smell box”!
